Netflix had an early Christmas present on offer for anyone who has ever been deep into a binge when they were forced to suddenly be someplace where streaming isn’t an option.
Announced via Twitter, Netflix has indicated that it will allow customers to download its in-house-produced content to their devices for offline viewing.
This is something of a reversal on Netflix’s part. The firm had previously denied it would allow offline downloading. That stance had softened by earlier this year as the company said it was working to develop a solution for customers who are flying or otherwise unable to access a network. Amazon has been enabling downloading services for a year, but those services are reportedly limited.
It also remains a bit unclear what devices will be able to download films. Phones and tablets will likely both be included, but it remains unknown if the option will also be open to desktop computer users.
