It’s no secret that department store J.C. Penney has been under immense pressure to turn its brick-and-mortar locations around.
Over the past few years, the big box retailer has had to close many of its stores after missing the sales mark. In an effort to draw in customers, just last week, J.C. Penney shared its plans to open up a boutique toy store inside its children’s departments.
Now, the J.C. Penney Company is upping its mobile game.
While J.C. Penney has had a mobile website and coupons for quite a while, it recently announced news that Apple Pay will be accepted across all of its stores in the United States. Customers visiting the store will now have the capability to make payments on items through their iPhones and Apple Watches.
In addition to launching Apple Pay, J.C. Penney has also added its branded credit card to the software company’s mobile wallet. In the future, the retailer will make it possible for consumers to purchase through the J.C. Penney app. The launch date for these updates to the company’s mobile app has not been announced at this time.
Therace Risch, executive vice president and chief information officer at J.C. Penney, commented on this new payment option for its consumers.
“With Apple Pay, we’re able to offer a faster, more seamless checkout process by allowing our customers to pay for their purchases by simply holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near a point-of-sale terminal, rather than inserting a chip card,” Risch said. “With the added convenience of our credit card as a payment option via Apple Pay, we’re giving customers another reason to join our credit card and loyalty programs.”
