Artificial intelligence (AI) is now being deployed to fix photos that are pixelated, blurry or out of focus.
Perfect Corp. — a New York Stock Exchange-listed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) AI and augmented reality (AR) beauty and fashion tech company — said in a Wednesday (Feb. 1) press release that its new YouCam Enhance fixes these flaws in seconds.
“This one-of-a-kind AI-powered innovation invites amateur and seasoned photographers to explore a range of upgrade options with just a tap of their smartphone, creating a truly accessible and useful toolkit for all,” Perfect Corp. founder and CEO Alice Chang said in the release.
YouCam Enhance is available at no charge as both an iOS mobile app and an online web tool and joins Perfect Corp.’s YouCam suite of apps that have been downloaded 1 billion times, according to the press release.
The launch of this app comes about a month after the announcement that Perfect Corp. has partnered with Indian direct-to-consumer (D2C) beauty and personal care firm The Good Glamm Group to offer a “hyper-realistic virtual makeup try-on tool” for users and retailers.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is being deployed across verticals to bring new capabilities to merchants and brands. For example, it is helping retailers decide what to buy and when to buy it in order to optimize their orders, by grocers to deploy smart shopping carts and by merchants to gain insights about their physical shelf requirements.
Chang predicted in a January press release that the role of AI- and AR- driven fashion tech in the retail world will continue to grow.
“Particularly in the jewelry and fashion accessory spaces, brands and retailers will begin to adopt AR virtual try-on technologies for rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more,” Chang said.
AR allows consumers a completely touch-free way to try on makeup and get a realistic idea of how a particular color or product will look on them, Chang told PYMNTS in an interview posted in June 2021.
“We need to connect the beauty lovers and the beauty brands,” Chang said at the time. “Previously, that was always done through the store. Now it is digital, and we can give the users more power to try before they buy, give feedbackand interact directly with the brand on the products.”
