Lyft is rolling out a car rental offering starting in Los Angeles and San Francisco that will work similarly to that of traditional car rental companies, The Verge reported.
The ridesharing firm is making the Volkswagen Atlas SUV and Volkswagen Passat sedan available at the rollout in San Francisco. The Mazda CX-5 SUV and the Mazda 3 sedan will be Los Angeles’ rollout cars.
Lyft is aggressively pricing the rentals with the Passat in San Francisco available for as little as $35 per day, although the company said the pricing could change based on factors like when people rent.
The firm will also give renters two $20 ride credits to help defray the cost of a Lyft ride to and from the pickup and drop-off locations. The company will let people as young as 22 rent if they have a valid driver’s license.
It’s not known which model year version Lyft is using with the vehicles, but the company noted that each of its rental cars comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is also offering three different optional coverage types for the rentals.
The firm also said it will debut hybrid options soon in the two fleets.
There aren’t mileage limits as the ride-hailing company will only charge the local market rate for gas. As a result, renters won’t need to worry about refueling their vehicles prior to returning them. Cars can be used for as long as two weeks or as little as one day.
In separate news, reports surfaced in October that Lyft was launching its Lyft Pink membership plan for riders looking for discounts on car, bike and scooter rides. The membership plan costs $19.99 a month and comes with a 15 percent discount on all car rides.
It is meant for riders who use Lyft two to three times per week or more. The discount does not apply to bike or scooter rides, but Lyft Pink members get three free 30-minute bike or scooter rides per month in certain markets.
