In a move that could help solidify its status as the go-to payments power behind social media’s expansion into e-commerce, Stripe has been named Facebook’s partner in developing it’s “buy” button.
Stripe signed a similar deal with Twitter earlier this year. Facebook has been experimenting with embedding a purchasing function in July. Users for the first time were able to purchase items directly from ads placed within Facebook, instead of merely clicking to a new site.
Stripe confirmed to Recode that it is the sole payments partner for the service.
Twitter’s ‘buy’ button is currently being tested by merchants who embed it in tweets so that shoppers are able to make purchases from within the social network. Stripe has also signed up with Chinese giant Alipay and made the select list of payments processors recommended by Apple for combination with its payment’s service.
