Select creators and collectors of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will soon be invited to share their creations or collections as part of a pilot program being launched by Meta’s Instagram.
Art, images and videos, music or trading cards can be shared by the creators themselves or by collectors who purchased the NFTs to add to their collections.
“At Meta, we’re looking at what creators are already doing across our technologies in order to improve the experience, help them create more monetization opportunities, and bring NFTs to a broader audience,” according to a press release on Tuesday (May 10).
Meta will start testing digital collectibles with a selection of U.S. creators and collectors who will be invited to share created or purchased NFTs on Instagram. Features include connecting the digital wallet where the NFTs reside, sharing the desired collectible or collection, and automatic tagging of the creator and collector.

“We collect and organize public data from open blockchains, such as Ethereum, to provide this feature. From this public blockchain data, we can only identify which collectibles belong to collectors and creators when they connect their third-party wallets to Instagram,” according to the release.
When the feature first launches with the initial select creators and collectors, Ethereum and Polygon blockchains will initially be supported, with Flow and Solana added next. Rainbow, MetaMask and Trust Wallet will be the first digital wallets that will be compatible, with Coinbase, Dapper and Phantom planned soon.
Meta will not charge any fees to post or share a digital collectible on Instagram, per the release.

“I feel excited to be able to share my NFT journey with the community I’ve been cultivating on IG for over ten years! I love how this new feature will let collectors trace the art back to the artist and be a part of the community that they have been building on IG for so long. I also love how it bridges my traditional art community and the Women Rise NFT community,” NFT collector @maliha_z_art said, according to the release.
