Samsung Adds NFT Platform to Smart TV Lineup

Samsung

Samsung is integrating a nonfungible token (NFT) platform to its 2022 smart TV lineup that includes the Micro LED, Neo QLED and The Frame, according to a press release Monday (Jan. 3). The NFT app can be used “for discovering, purchasing and trading digital artwork.”

The company will unveil its new smart TV lineup, which embraces the “Screens Everywhere, Screens for All” mantra with immersive sound and more personalized experiences, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas this week.

Art Mode on the Micro LED lineup allows consumers to turn any room into an art gallery by selecting and displaying artwork or digital photography, including two exclusive media pieces from noted artist and designer Refik Anadol.

“With demand for NFTs on the rise, the need for a solution to today’s fragmented viewing and purchasing landscape has never been greater,” the company said in its announcement.

Samsung is pushing to introduce the first smart TV NFT explorer and marketplace aggregator this year, including the ability for viewers to browse and trade NFTs from their couches. The company says its smart TVs won’t hinder the image quality of the NFTs it displays.

Samsung has also been investing in NFT and metaverse projects through its venture capital arm, Samsung Next. The company participated in an investment round for a metaverse gaming platform on Wednesday (Dec. 29).
