American Express card members now have the ability to make a virtual card on the Airbase platform, the companies announced Tuesday (Feb. 15).
This will add to the visibility and control they have with spend management, with Airbase routing employee requests to make an Amex virtual card. Additionally, it will capture transaction details and sync them to a user’s general ledger.
By integrating the eligible card, users will be able to automate and manage non-payroll spend within the company’s spend policy.
The Airbase spend management functionality allows users to pre-approve spending limits, control reoccurring charges, categorize transactions at the approval stage to cut down on errors, automatically sync virtual transactions and cut down on manual reconciliations.
In addition, the Airbase connection will offers bill payments and expense reimbursements in a platform consolidating spending.

The account comes with several benefits, including membership for rewards points for eligible purchases, purchase protection and an annual percentage yield (APY) rate higher than the national rate.
“Our Members want more banking products and services from us,” said Eva Reda, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Banking, American Express. “And they want more from their checking account, without giving up the benefits that are important to them. That’s why we built Amex Rewards Checking to deliver more value for Members with the powerful and trusted backing of American Express. It’s digital checking without compromises.”
Alongside a checking account with a 0.50% APY, it also has a contactless debit card that can earn points. Additionally, members can access, manage and deposit checks through the app.
