Revolut Brings On Metro Bank’s MacLean As Finance Chief

Revolut hires bank exec

Revolut is set to appoint Metro Bank executive David MacLean as its new chief financial officer.

MacLean will join Revolut later this year, pending regulatory approval. He has served as the finance director at Metro since 2016, and will remain on board until October while it searches for his replacement.

“Dave brings a wealth of banking and financial services experience to the table and, as we prepare to launch Revolut in new international markets, will play a crucial role in our mission to help improve the financial well-being of millions of people worldwide,” said Nik Storonsky, Revolut chief executive, according to Financial Times.

MacLean will join ex-TSB and HSBC banker Richard Davies who became chief operating officer earlier this month. Standard Life Aberdeen Co-chief Executive Martin Gilbert became an adviser for the company in March, and it was recently announced that Michael Sherwood, who left his position as vice chairman of Goldman Sachs in late 2016 after more than three decades with the company, is joining Revolut as a non-executive director next week.

Davies said in a recent interview that the new hires would help to “make sure that we’ve got governance and controls moving at the same pace as the commercial growth environment.”

Revolut is also venturing beyond Europe and into Australia. However, the company won’t be providing Australian users with all of its services right away, nor will services be available for everyone. Instead, the company is doing a beta release, with plans to add more users daily. Currently, 20,000 people are on the waitlist in the country.

Some features, like crypto exchange, business accounts and metal payment cards, won’t be available in the beta version. Customers can perform basic functions, like opening accounts, sending and receiving money and getting regular cards. In Australia, users can exchange money with anyone in the U.K., and transfers are instant and free.
