WEX, a FinTech service provider, announced in a press release that it has added two new executives to its leadership team: Chief Digital Officer Karen Stroup and Chief Operating Officer International Carlos Carriedo.
Both positions are new, the release stated.
Stroup will focus on improving digital commerce and product development opportunities across the enterprise, according to the release. She used to work at Thomson Reuters as chief digital officer and has over 15 years of experience with innovation, product management and digital Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings.
Carriedo will oversee operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC), the release stated. His responsibilities will include leading the company’s strategic growth. His previously worked at American Express as general manager of Commercial Services for Europe, and he was also chairman of Russia’s American Express Bank.
“Looking ahead to 2022, Karen and Carlos will be instrumental in expanding our global footprint and optimizing digital solutions for customers around the world,” said WEX Chair and CEO Melissa Smith in the release. “As seasoned innovation and international professionals, both executives will enhance our global competitive position by focusing on WEX’s strategic growth and international collaboration initiatives. I look forward to partnering with them as we continue to grow our business.”
In September, WEX and ChargePoint, an electric vehicle (EV) charging network, expanded their relationship to provide more seamless integration for mixed fleets and increase access to the largest public EV charging network, which provides on-route charging needs.

The development came with depot and at-home charging, boosting employee reimbursement. And the companies announced they would offer a robust end-to-end solution, adding new kinds of charging and centralized reporting and billing, and real-time energy data.
