Monica Williams, Former Zillow Exec, Named CFO Of Tango Card

Digital rewards and loyalty provider Tango Card has appointed Monica Williams to the position of chief financial officer (CFO), according to a Thursday (Feb. 25) announcement emailed to PYMNTS.

“As our business continues to scale organically and through acquisition and as it increases in complexity, we see the opportunity to add incredible talent in strategic areas,” Tango Card CEO and founder David Leeds said in the announcement. “When we began recruiting a CFO, Monica immediately stood out. Her experience as a CFO in growth companies was a great fit for us.”

Williams had served in the past as vice president of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and treasury at Zillow Group and CFO at Pro.com, Allrecipes and Avvo. The executive becomes a part of Tango Card’s management team as the firm keeps undergoing sizable growth, according to the announcement.

“This is an amazing time to join Tango Card, which has a large and loyal customer base and an incredible growth opportunity ahead,” Williams said in the announcement. “I look forward to partnering with the talented leadership team and helping the company execute on an aggressive and attractive strategic growth plan. I’m also excited to learn more about the fascinating rewards and incentives industry.”

Like a number of things that are seen via a pre-pandemic vs. post-pandemic lens, the process of incentivizing loyal customers and rewarding staff underwent a year of reinvention and adaptation. As much as COVID-19 has made obsolete the days when firms took the entire sales team to Hawaii, it’s brought about a new era of relevance, immediacy and awareness that’s key when it’s time to thank the people who made it possible.

“With the pandemic, [typical incentives like] going out to eat, going to the movies, traveling and even procuring and shipping merchandise — they’re just not practical,” Nat Salvione, chief commercial officer at Tango Card, told PYMNTS in a previous interview.

He said that when taking the time to thank clients or staff, what’s practical and key is to make sure the reward is relevant.

“Gift cards and payment options that are all digital have really proven relevant during this time,” he said. “They’re instant — nothing has to go through the mail — and a gift card, which is all about choice for the consumer, fits into everyone’s different situations during the pandemic.”
