Baskin-Robbins, the quick-serve ice cream retailer, has started ice cream delivery in certain cities around the country.
According to a news report, in 22 cities last week Baskin-Robbins rolled out the retail service, in which customers can place orders online for ice cream and have it delivered in less than an hour.
The ice cream restaurant is teaming up with DoorDash for the service in which customers can order a slew of different ice cream products, including prepackaged quarts and sundaes. Customers have the option of ordering online or through the DoorDash mobile app, which is available for both iPhones and Android devices.
In order to prevent melting during the ice cream delivery, DoorDash is relying on insulated carriers, noted the report. There is a delivery fee for the service, which is available via more than 600 quick-serve Baskin-Robbins locations, including a range of cities like New York, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco. Baskin-Robbins had tested the retail service in around 60 restaurant locations before the roll out to the 22 cities.
“We’re excited to partner with DoorDash to offer our guests an ice cream delivery experience and give them another way to enjoy Baskin-Robbins’ ice cream treats from the convenience of their own home,” said Carol Austin, VP of marketing for Baskin-Robbins, which is owned by Dunkin’ Brands Group.
The report noted the company has more than 7,800 QSR stores in 50 countries around the globe. In August, the ice cream store operator announced it released its first-ever mobile app for iPhone and Android users. In addition to early access to special deals — and a coupon for a free 4 oz. scoop upon initial download — Baskin-Robbins’ app will also allow customers to set any dietary preferences or restrictions and to pay without pulling out cards or cash.
