Livestreaming and on-demand video and audio platform LiveXLive Media will be launching a series of pay-per-view (PPV) shows on Facebook’s new paid online event feature, according to a press release.
The shows will span comedy, sports and podcasting, and they will be marketed globally, the release stated. Tickets can be bought on either platform.
LiveXLive President Dermot McCormack said in the release that the company “will be working closely with Facebook in marketing this new paid online event experience; utilizing new and existing marketing tools to support LiveXLive subscriptions to our vast array of products and services. This will benefit talent and fans in a profound way on both platforms.”
The first show promoted will be titled “Social Gloves: Battle of the Platforms” and will be a boxing and entertainment live event featuring popular names in social media, the release stated. It will take place June 5.
The event will be “a one of a kind, unprecedented live PPV entertainment mega event that will include a Gatsby-esque, over-the-top production boxing competition pitting the world’s largest social media stars from YouTube against the new icons from the explosive TikTok platform,” according to the release.
Featured will be Austin McBroom of The ACE Family, Bryce Hall, Danny Duncan, DDG, Deji, FaZe Jarvis, Michael Le, Nate Wyatt, Tanner Fox, Tayler Holder and Vinnie Hacker, the release stated.
“The growing momentum behind the use of paid online events in the sports world is very real and this is another strong example,” said Facebook Director of Sports Media and League Partnerships Rob Shaw in the release. “We’re excited for LiveXLive to lean into the feature and continue to build a business on our platform.”
Facebook’s livestreaming app, Venue, was rolled out in May amid the pandemic as a way to let people experience events from home, with journalists, athletes or social media experts hosting proceedings.
