From Portugal to the Philippines, Real-Time Payments Increase Their Global Footprint

The Real-Time Payments World Map

Real-time payments schemes are growing around the world, but they still largely play second fiddle to other payment systems. In this month’s “Real-Time Payments World Map,” a collaboration with The Clearing House, PYMNTS explores which real-time payments schemes are leading the pack in the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

Inside the July World Map
  • While the Philippines’ InstaPay scheme made up just 0.7% of its total payments volume in 2022, the country’s geography gives real-time payments tremendous potential.
  • The Saudi government has aggressively pushed widespread real-time payments adoption since its inception.
  • Poland was an early adopter of real-time payments in Europe, introducing two separate schemes in 2012.
