Walmart has become the first official retail partner of health and wellness hospitality company Getaway and will launch The General Store by Walmart at select Getaway locations this fall, according to a joint press release Thursday (July 28).
Getaway offers Outposts, or collections of small, furnished cabins, within a two-hour drive of major cities, the release stated. The goal is for guests to disconnect from devices and reconnect with nature.
The General Store by Walmart will include seasonal products, sourced from Walmart and curated by so-called “outdoor experts” at Getaway, according to the release. The stores will also sell items from some of the small businesses in the area where the Outposts are located.
The first general store will open in August at Getaway Hill Country in Wimberly, Texas, and there are plans to add others by the end of the year at Machimoodus in Moodus, Connecticut; Getaway Big Bear in Running Springs, California; Getaway Western Catskills in Roscoe, New York; and Getaway Ozark Highlands in Osceola, Missouri, the release stated.
“At Getaway, our mission is to help people disconnect and spend time in nature,” said Getaway Chief Experience Officer Carlos Becil in the release. “In partnering with Walmart, we are able to amplify our efforts to a larger audience and provide our guests with more free time, helping them prepare for their stays and enjoy the comforts of nature once they arrive.”
The items sold at The General Store by Walmart will also be available on a Getaway shopping page on Walmart.com. Getaway guests who visit any location in the next year will also receive a complimentary Walmart+ trial, according to the release.
Earlier this week, Walmart partnered with eyecare brand Waldo to offer contact lenses with essential vitamins, including B12, “to help refresh and rejuvenate eyes.”
